As early as the beginning of the 19th century, Zug was open for businessmen from abroad. This spirit of openness – typical of Zug and combined with the business-friendly mentality and the low tax rates – has attracted numerous foreign companies to settle in the region. The well developed infrastructure in the fields of banking, trusteeship, asset management, legal and tax advice fulfill all the high demands of international business activity. Zug’s industry is broadly based. Trade and industry are important factors of life in Zug. Two thirds of all employees are active in the service sector. Noteworthy is the presence of companies active in the fields of commodity trading, wholesale trade, medical technology, bio technology, high-tech (IT and electronic components), pharmaceuticals and chemical products, sports articles and sports marketing, schools, management and adult education, metal processing and general finance.
